Cars - Dacia
|
Now I know absolutely nothing about cars. Just having a look and whatever search I do Dacia cars always seem to come up as very cheap for what you are getting. Yes that screams out as they are a load of old crap but they are a subsidiary of Renault. So are they really that bad? Or actually quite good for the money? Cheap and cheerful.

They have a good reputation for reliability.

Go Korean or Japanese for cheap and generally reliable.
I'd pay cash for a 2 or 3 year old car from a main dealer with 20000 or less on the clock. I'd never take it back there for a service unless you have money to burn. Offer the dealer around 10% less than the asking price. Hold your nerve and they'll accept or come very close in the end. Walk out the showroom if they don't.
Don't worry about the warranty, get it serviced by a local garage instead, especially if you get recommend one by someone who knows their shit.
You should easily get 100k plus out if such a motor without too many things going wrong. Might need a clutch at some point, obviously tyres as well.
That's my advice if you don't care about cars. Personally I find them almost as boring as trains, I have no idea why some people think they need a new car every 2 years.

Yaris always reminds me of a car for invalids or old grannies

Dacias are meant to be reliable but just really basic aren’t they? Shitty interiors, basic specs and all that.
I know very little about cars but would say one thing - avoid anything french with lots of electrics. Nothing but trouble with two modern 307s we’ve had (old school 206 still going fine)

My parents have a Dacia Sandero, they bought it new about 6 years ago. They've had no problems with it, it's reliable and good value. Fine for mainly local driving, I wouldn't want to be driving long distance in it. The duster is bigger and probably a better buy.

I guess you have to ask yourself if you are happy with the whole world knowing that you are poor?

I can afford a much better looking car than what I drive but I don't care in the slightest if someone thinks my car makes me look poor. A LOT of people do not give a toss as long as their motor passes the MOT and starts and goes when it's minus two in the morning. My car is a piece of shit but I don't that many vehicles overtaking me on the A12 the way so personally I can't see the point.
If you're into cars and can afford a lovely car that's great. Whatever floats your boat isn't it?
I just feel sorry for people who feel they need to have a car that they can't afford and so they effectively rent one instead. Daft as fuck that is, I bet that's 50% of 4WD cars round my way and most of them do less off road than I do in my shitty hatchback. Love it down a properly muddy track to a fishing spot, giving it the full beans so it doesn't get stuck.
Happy driving whatever your wheels may be.

bruuuno's post pretty much sums up for me everything that's wrong with blokes who fixate on cars or brands.

I'm sure they do fancier interiors now, don't they? I think they look fine.

Bruuuuno, what a cuntish attitude that is.
Have you got the big watch too so when you're wearing only swimming trunks people still know you've got money?
I think clinical psychologists refer to this professionally as 'tiny cock syndrome'.

My daughter bought a new one a few years ago, 100% reliable but seems about 40 years old, wind noise , rattles and not very comfortable after an hours driving.
My 15 year old bmw was a far better car than her new one and was a 5th of the price.

I know quite a few people who are well off, live in a nice house, good size garden with money to burn and they drive 'shit' cars. They say they prefer to have a middle of the range car and have 2/3 holidays a year out to the carribbean rather than looking like a cunt driving an Audi or a BMW. Most of them go for Volvo or Volks.. the Tourag is a nice run around.

Going for my constitutional around the west end at the moment really makes me see how shit doesn't matter anymore.
Walking down Bond St or South Audley St and looking in the windows and seeing ridiculous clothes at ridiculous prices really brings it home how fucked up we all are.
Got a nice car? Good for you. Got a shit car? Good for you too. Who really gives a flying fuck?

Car snobbery makes me laugh. I bought a new car in October and for the price I paid, I could have bought a new Mercedes or a new BMW - but I bought a Skoda because it's the better car.
Who gives a shit? People have various cars for various reasons.
